As 1918 begins Surgeon General Rupert Blue issued a public warning to follow health instructions on respiratory illness. Influenza is reported to be “in subsidence.” The war regulation of everyday life is apparent in the call for “self-denial” to ensure there is bread enough for the troops fighting in France.
