February 14, 1918

One poor soldier,  Lynn Young, is now sick with scarlet fever after recovering from influenza, during his training as a flyer at Camp MacArthur, Texas. The same day two other Hood River, Oregon boys are reported safe from after the Tyuscania sinking. The Oregon Smileage campaign for "wholesome entertainment" for the troops is underway and endured by the city Mayor. In Baltimore there are violent labor fights and strikes at the waterfront.
