The National Association of Shot Gun Owners inaugural meeitng in Hamilton County was convened to establish a branch in every town in the county. The organization was founded by John Philip Sousa and intends to prevent riots and uprisings during the progress of the war. Influenza is mentioned on the back page of the Webster City (Ia.) Freeman, vaccination of pigs is widespread. The newspaper inserts "W.S.S." - War Savings Stamps - as a paragraph divider more than 20 times on the front page as a subliminal encouragement to buy.
