"No one who has not had influenza can realize the suffering it causes or how it defies treatment," Granny Chamberlain was sure that her that her Cough Remedy when "freely given" would ensure the "greatest danger" - pneumonia - would be averted. Treasury Secretary McAdoo set the goal for a further $10B ($175B in current money) raise in war bonds by July, and confirmed the federal government would not take over the railroads.
