The Red Cross drive to recruit 10 million members produced 16 million during the Christmas season. Sixteen million represented one-fith of the population and was an expression of huge commitment to service. The news in Dorchester County, Maryland is filled with reminders for men to register for the draft, a warning from the Secretary of the YMCA that the war will not be over anytime soon, and the Supreme Court upholding the war powers acts.
