The medical corps were prevented from attending the troops in Europe on account of the influenza epidemic according to Dr. C.F. Holst. He served at Camp Custer outside Detroit, where there were 13,000 cases, doctors might work for 42 hours straight and 800 deaths. Ty Cobb, an officer in the chemical corps has returned to the United States.
