There is a call to the recruiting station by the veterinary corps of some 2000 men in the subsequent few weeks. These "veterinary students and agricultural students," are being recruited along with 20 horseshoers mostly for they ability to handle horses. They would be sent to Fort Riley. Senator Chamberlain (D-OR) a key member of the miltary committee on war expenditures, author of the preparedness act, and designer of the food measures received an emergency appendectomy.
