Physicians in the medical reserve, currently restricted to the rank of major, are being considered a rank increase to reflect their importance in keeping men in the field. The reorganization was neglected even as the army grew rapidly in 1917. The Chattanooga News, with the byline "Never In History did Events Crowd AS NOW," also reports 9 deaths from disease and four soldiers killed in action. Mayor of Atlanta Candler is on the stand at a trial for soliciting improper relations with a married women.
