The Bystander, an African American publication from Des Moines, Iowa, uses the front page to make its endorsements for various offices: for US Representative, James B . Weaver ("splendid Christian and a true friend of the common people"); RJ Byrkit for County Auditor ("will treat all races and classes right"); FD Joseph for State Superintendent ("is in sympathy with all struggling classes, especially the Colored race").
