Dr. Annie Daniel is honored by 300 physicians for her ministering to the needs of New York's poor on the East Side for 40 years. She describes the social determinants of health and notes a child born into the East Side poverty has six times higher mortality rate of a soldier at the front. She unlike some of her fellow NY doctors (see One Day at a Time, July 16) is aware of how influenza is a menace and enabling secondary infections.
